1991 Turkish Payphone Received on August 30th 2018
This Turkish payphone, manufactured in 1991, was provided by an employee from the Ottawa BNR R&D labs. It was used in the mid-90s to test the global line card. After the program concluded, the phone was kept at BNR as a project souvenir. The Turkish payphone had been sent to ensure compatibility with switches purchased from Northern Telecom, as part of the Glines program in the early 90s. At that time, Northern Telecom had a joint venture in Turkey called Netas, responsible for developing DMS100 switches for the international market. However, the Netas software deployed on the DMS hardware only supported POTS features. As a result, in the late 80s and early 90s, Northern Telecom began selling its own international version of DMS100 software, with the Turkish payphone playing a role in testing this program.
This Turkish Payphone uses Small, Medium and Large brass tokens to make calls.
